The number of daily Covid-19 cases in South Korea exceeded 50,000 for the first time as the Omicron variant spread rapidly across the country

According to Yonhap’s report, the Korea Agency for Disease Control and Prevention (KDCA) reported 54,122 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. The total number of cases seen since the beginning of the epidemic thus reached 1 million 185 thousand 361.
Stating that this is the highest number of daily cases since the beginning of the epidemic, health officials warned that this figure could reach 170,000 by the end of the month.
The number of people who died from Covid-19 increased by 20 in the last 24 hours to 6 thousand 963.
To ease the workload of healthcare workers and government officials and better deal with the outbreak, the public health agency has decided to make a daily “check-up call” to only high-risk patients to find out about their condition.
In this context, other high-risk groups, such as Kovid-19 patients aged 60 and over, people with chronic diseases and those with weakened immune systems, are called by phone since the early hours of the day.
The number of daily cases in the country exceeded 30 thousand for the first time on February 5, just three days after crossing the 20 thousand border, and was between 30 thousand and 40 thousand for four consecutive days.
